What You Need To Know About SIPS Construction Materials

By Jeffrey Wood

Advancement in technology has made people come up with different ways, techniques and methods of constructing and building houses either for light commercial or residential use. During these construction activities, aspects like energy saving, installation, and materials costs, tear, wear, aestheticism, durability, air circulation and thermoregulation are considered. Due to such considerations, SIPS Construction materials have been majorly preferred as they possess most of these characteristics.

SIPS or the structural insulated panels are not very new but their demand and popularity have risen in recently. Their use has overtaken timber products because they are easy to fix. At the same time, they can be costumed made to your requirements in order to make it easier for you during construction.

The use of these materials in a building is also beneficial in that they produce a structure that is appealing to the eyes. That is, the aestheticism offered by these materials is high. The fixing of these materials is also easy due to the way of manufacture. This is because they are manufactured in a way that gives you directions and the way you are supposed to fix them. They are also found in different colors and styles.

Since they are available in different colors, they eliminate the need for applying varnish or painting like in timber products. Additionally, the insulated panels are manufactured in a sandwiched mechanism that provides insulation. Since the foam has air spaces, and air is not a good conductor of heat and electricity, the house remains cool during the day and warm at night. Because of this, there are no extreme conditions either too cold or too hot.

The materials used to make foam casing are hard. This means they are hard and are able to resist pressures as well as providing a strong surface even when hit by objects. During fixing, screws and glues are used. This means an error or mistake can be easily corrected as compared to corrections in bricks and concrete constructions where correction requires demolition of a large constructed surface.

Another benefit is that these materials can be used with other building materials so that a complete insulated surface is created. They can also be used to serve different purposes. For instance, they can be used for roofing, wall or floor installation. They can also be used to make storage shelves for light weighed products.

On the contrary, there are various demerits that are associated with using these insulated panels. One of the major demerits is that they cannot be used in the construction of exterior walls of a heavy commercial building like skyscrapers. On the other hand, some of the insulating materials may include plastics which can easily break. Therefore, they have to be kept in areas that are well controlled and guarded.

Such characteristics demand that their storage to guarded and closely monitored. Due to the presence of foam, any case of fire outbreak can see the whole building burning down to complete ashes. This is not the case in concrete where simple efforts put the fire out. The lifespan of these panels is short and can be broken easily by materials that hit them from the outside or inside.
