Guidelines On The Pill Press

By Lelia Hall

The need for creation of goods used as medicine and cleaning agents in desirable shapes has prompted creativity in device making. This has brought about invention of mechanical devices used in designing these goods into specified shapes and sizes. This device is called the pill press. It is used to mix the required ingredients in a specific process like vitamin making. It also designs the resulting product into the required size and shapes.

Understanding the features of a powder used in the tablet press is important in knowing how it functions. The powder used in this process can be processed through three ways. One of them is direct blending. Under this method the powder is just blended and the tablets are then made from the blended powder. This method produces very few tablets however.

Another way of powder processing is through the process of wet granulating. Under this method, a liquid is added into the grind particles and the mixture is then stirred in order to form bonds between particles. After the formation of a bond, the excess of this liquid is then separated from the mixture by a drying step. This is the most used technique in processing the powder for making the various pills required.

Dry granulating is also another method of processing the fine particles. Under this method, the powder is compacted and then it is ground back. Compression of this powder makes it to be denser. This boosts how it flows as well as increasing consistency of flow. This method is usually used for products that are not only too light but also fine to compress directly. Also it is used for materials that are sensitive to the process of wet granulation.

Understanding liquid flow is also an important issue in understanding the process by which the press makes the various tablets. Consistency in powder flow is very important. The ability of a good powder to flow is like that of a granulated sugar. This is because granulated sugar has the ability to flow both evenly and consistently. This ensures effective filling of the flask.

The basis of coming up with a pill on a press tablet depends on filling of your flask. This shows how important the flow is during the process. It calls for an excellent flow as well as for uniformity in density of the product. Variation in the volume as well as density will lead to variations in both weight and shape of pills produced.

The traits of your powder normally vary from one item to the other one. The amount of water vapor present, shape of particles their size affects the quality of pills produced in the process. The denser and uniform the particles are, the quality the end products of this production process will be.

Today many industries are participating in provision of granules into different shapes, sizes and density. For this reason it is important to cater for the quality as well as efficiency in the production process to ensure uniformity on the final output.
