Why Cranes Should Undergo Thorough Testing By A Crane Inspection Company

By Heidi Carver

Since safety is always a priority in working with huge machines, it is not really surprising to know that inspection of these equipments has been deemed mandatory. There are already hundreds of reported cases of accidents involving heavy equipments such as cranes, and will the number will continually increase if we do not abide by safety standards. To avoid complications, it is best to have your machinery checked by a crane inspection company in Tennessee.

Cranes are indispensable in the field of industries such as cargo, shipping, and construction. They help lift heavy loads and transfer them to different locations. There are many kinds of cranes known to men, but these are classified into three groups. These groups are classified according to structure, usage and type. There are the overhead classification, the mobile classification, and the fixed classification.

Overhead models can lift from two to nine hundred tons. They are further subdivided into different kinds. One of these is the stacker crane that has a forklift type mechanism which is most commonly used in warehouses. Generally, overhead types consists of parallel runways with traveling bridges to span that gap.

Mobile models are known for being transportable almost virtually anywhere, be it land, air or sea. Sky cranes are modified helicopters that are used to carry large loads up in the air. Floating cranes are special barges that transport loads from ship to ship even in the middle of the ocean. Land cranes are usually mounted on wheelers.

Fixed models, as suggestive of their names, do not move around from location to location. In fact, they are planted to the ground at the beginning of construction and will only be disassembled once the constr4uction project is done. They are usually found in the construction of tall buildings and can lift materials weighing from 3 to 900 tons.

These machines do such intense tasks that they usually wear out often. Hence, a thorough testing on a regular basis has been enforced for every equipment. They require constant testing, operation and maintenance to keep them at their best performance.

Cranes, according to safety rules, need to be checked as frequently as once per day to one day per month. In this type of inspection, only the hooks, hoist chains and rope wires need to be checked. This test can be performed by its operator. Periodic checks are done by qualified inspectors and are done yearly.

It is a must to have equipment tested by only those who are qualified. Many can claim to be competent enough to do the checking, but do not ever settle for competent. Look for an expert who can show you unquestionable proof of his expertise. Make sure that you are spending good, hard earned money on impeccable and thorough service.

The best option is to hire a certified inspection company. After all, safety is not an issue to be taken likely. To avoid accidents, it will not hurt to spend money. Just think, if you do not invest in a quality inspection, you will need to spend more in paying for the damages caused by the defective machine. Most companies offer quality services at affordable rates, so the expense is not really much of an issue.
