The Baltimore Orioles: How They Tie Into Truck Wraps & Advertising

By Robert Sutter

Attractions are crucial if cities want to draw in as many tourists as possible. There are many prominent examples of this, ranging from theme parks to museums. Essentially, if there is anything of value to be seen, people are going to be drawn to it. This is where the subject of baseball comes in. More specifically, it is important to talk about the Baltimore Orioles and there are many reasons why specialists in truck wraps would be able to see how the Orioles tie into clever advertising.

An article on CBS DC talked about a particular billboard that was placed on the I-295, which is located Maryland outside of the border of Washington D.C. More specifically, the billboard displays Adam Jones, Chris Davis and Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles baseball team. This alone should be able to draw in anyone's attention but you may be curious about the specifics of the billboard. For those who do not know, the object of this is to encourage people to call in and purchase tickets to baseball games.

The article stated that the billboard has a visible phone number that people can call into for the sake of purchasing tickets. Its location is pretty intuitive, too, outside of the fact that it is placed along the I-295. For those who do not know, the billboard in question has been positioned about 6.5 miles from Nationals Park, which opened during 2008. Given the fact that this is seen as the home of the Washington Nationals, it is easy to see that this can perpetuate the feud that is natural for sports teams to have.

With favoritism towards sports teams aside, though, this kind of ad placement is a movement that can call for the support of authorities such as JMR Graphics. Strategy is crucial when it comes to advertising with any materials, ranging from billboards to truck wraps. Placement is especially important and the fact that this particular billboard was positioned in what many sports fans would call enemy territory is very creative. It's a move that will, undoubtedly, draw in publicity. After all, this is the goal of advertising in general.

The amount of devotion that sports teams have to certain teams is hard to deny and it's easy to see that the same can very well be said for baseball. For this reason alone, I can undoubtedly see why a billboard focusing on opposing team members can draw negativity from baseball fans. However, with this point aside, it's hard to deny that the way the billboard was placed was an ingenious one. Its proximity, in relation to Nationals Park, can only help matters that much more.
