By Lelia Hall

When dressing, there are times when there is a need or an interest in us to put on extra garments. Just like when you happen to dress in a polo shirt with a low button, or if you are needed by the organization to wear your membership item, you will have to wear your designated or chosen pin. This is the function of a lapel pin.

But other than being a decoration, this item actually has a significant meaning when it comes to an organization. It may serve as an identification, membership, and recognition of position, affiliation, and rewards. So given these many purposes of the pin, you can find it customized. But if you want to have one for yourself, then you can avail a custom lapel pin.

To avail this, you will have to look for a firm which provides the service. So if you already have identified one, then all you have to do is choose your design. If you already have the one you wanted, then just submit it to the maker and then the process will commence. Now here is how the work is done.

Designs are animated by being drawn with a blue line. It can be done digitally or on paper with a light box to plan all the artwork and elements which make up the design. Now once the design is accepted, it is then colored using ink and then placed on a mechanical sheet which produces the blueprint. Now here is a detailed process of the making.

First, the surface of the metal is molded to form the intended design. Then next to that follows the cutting of the outline. Well cutting molds are actually made separately then it is cut following the exact details of the designs outline. In some instances, additional outline cutting molds may be required especially if the item is complex.

And then once that is done, attachments would follow. Here, you paste all the items which are included in the planned design. So if there is anything that needed to be attached rather than the raw item, it is in this juncture that it is attached. Then once it is done, the plating follows. If you want this to be of quality, then it can differ depending on the length of time the metal has been soaked in the liquid.

And so what follows after that procedure is the coloring and the polishing. This is applied to the surface of the metal. Polishing is done for the purpose of making the pin shiny as well as smooth. While coloring is of course done to give a visual grandeur to the item. But this has to be done carefully so that defects would be avoided.

Now when all these procedures are finished, cleaning would then proceed. In this step, impurities and excess color are wiped away from the metal surfaces. So after this, you will see that the items are made clean. But the procedure is not through just yet. Baking would still need to ensue. That would be at approximately 450F for about fifteen minutes.

And lastly, epoxy is applied to the final item as a coating. This is to protect the enamel from cracking and color fading. So given this, you can benefit from a really superb outcome. With this, you would surely like the result of your custom pin.
