New Orleans Airboat Tours Are Very Exciting

By Jocelyn Davidson

New Orleans is a city in southeastern Louisiana in the United States. It is one of the cities that were established at great cost as it was in the center of a fight for control by North America. As it is situated on the great Mississippi the New Orleans airboat tours are very popular and many come from far and wide to see its wonderful wetlands.

These tours are available every day and normally last for about one hour forty five minutes. There are four different times that one can choose from so if the first trip is fully booked one will not be disappointed. Unfortunately children younger than six are not allowed as there is some danger involved. For those that are pregnant, this is not recommended as it is very bumpy.

The Mardi Gras season normally starts on January 6th as this is considered the start of Lent or the beginning of the Catholic season. This name is French for Fat Tuesday and celebrations start two weeks before the actual day. There is normally one big parade each day but at times there can be about several other parades celebrated as well.

Not all tours need to be taken by airboat but by road as well. One will get to see the sugarcane fields and cypress swamps as well as some famous bridges that go over the Mississippi river. This can be done in one's own car or with a guide where he will be able to tell one about the history of the area.

These tours are also available every day and take about one and a half hours to complete leaving plenty of time to see all the other interesting things in the area. During peak season there are four different starting times and adults pay $25 while children between the ages of four and twelve only pay $12. If one is in a group pricings can be given as well.

The plantation tours are also filled with history that will leave the history buff enthralled. One will visit the Laura Plantation as well as the Oak Alley Plantation. The Oak Alley Plantation was built in the early 1700s and a French settler planted the live oak trees that lined the path to the house. All in all there are twenty eight of them.

Another tour worth taking will be a trip on the famous Steamboat Natchez. Upon boarding one will be greeted with delightful tunes of the Steam Calliope. Enjoy the trip that Mark Twain and Tom Sawyer experienced all those years ago. One will get to see America's second largest port with a delectable lunch buffet as well.

New Orleans airboat and plantation tours are a definite for those that seek adventure and find history fascinating. This city thrives on history and will keep one entertained with all the things to do while visiting. Try to take a ride on the Steamboat Natchez just like Mark Twain said that Huck Finn did so long ago and experience some history in the process.
