Why You Ought To Take Tower Crane Inspections Seriously

By Kendra Hood

Machine and man have been friends from long time ago. Cranes are now a requirement for work that involves tall buildings or great heights. Projects of building high-rise buildings require the use of cranes if not just one to help transport required building materials from the ground level to where they are needed. For the proper functionality, tower crane inspections are required.

Like any other machine, cranes are also prone to failure. This is why the onsite engineers must ensure that they are running smoothly by conducting timely inspection. If cranes were to fail in the middle of a construction job, the whole process would have to be halted as required materials would cease to be transported to the desired floors. This would bring about loss of revenue to the owner and also failure to beat set deadlines.

Cranes are very useful since they help to lift some of the heaviest objects, devices, and construction materials that people would not be able to lift. This therefore; means that there would be no such tall buildings without the help of cranes. Some of the things that cranes lift include metals, concrete, iron bars, and cement. It would not be possible for human beings to lift some of these materials under normal conditions.

Although the cranes would lift some of the materials such as wiring accessories, they would not do the wiring part on their own. Somebody would have to be on the top part of the building to do the necessary. In this case, the cranes become imperative in transporting and lifting work force. The cranes would easily lift electricians and roofers to the top of the building to do the work.

The general point is that without inspection of these cranes, they may develop problems that would later affect the entire construction work. This is the reason why inspectors carry out their inspection task occasionally. One of the things that the inspectors would check on these cranes is if the thimbles, pins, pendant lines, slewing rings, rollers, tracks, and cable clips are in good condition.

Cranes have numerous joints that require maintenance to make sure that they are working perfectly. Lubrication of these joints is not only essential but also good for the smooth running of cranes. Friction in these joints may lead to overheating and consequently breakdown of the cranes. Lubrication also prevents rusting and it is for this reason that lubrication is needed more during winter and rainy seasons as water accelerates rusting. Professional inspectors will always know what kind of lubricants to use.

For an inspector, understanding the operation of these cranes is very essential. One should hire professionals who really know the workings of cranes. This is essential for proper maintenance. Otherwise, your cranes will not be as dependable. It is also very dangerous to hire people who do not have the proper background knowledge in dealing with such machines. You do not want to your workers hanging in the air from faulty cranes.

Make sure that the hired inspectors fulfill the inspection requirements and have valid operating licenses. This may help protect you in case of loss of life or injuries at the construction site. Your insurance provider will not cover your losses if the fault was due to you hiring an unreliable inspector. This would be a huge failure in your part.
