The Significance Of Ice Fishing Houses

By Dorothy Barnes

Ice fishing is an amazing technique of extracting fish from water bodies. This technique is adopted in snow infested areas. Fishermen inhabiting these areas capture fish either in warm structures or open air. Ice fishing houses are special structures designed to give fishermen a comfortable stay when catching sea animals. These structures are portable in nature and can be placed on top of a frozen lake.

Cheap ice shanties are made of plastic tarp and frames. Expensive ones on the other hand contain utilities such as electricity, heat, cooking structures and bunks. Expensive and durable shanties are usually left on the frozen water body until a fishing season is over. This is, however, proves to be challenging because there are times when such shanties are trapped in thaws.

These housing structures form an integral part of the lives of those who inhabit snow infested regions. To be precise, most fishermen decorate these structures with appealing materials. Also, these shanties are diverse in design. They are meant to make fish catching more comfortable and efficient because snow regions are characterized by extremely low temperatures.

These shanties are usually towed to frozen lakes by use of a truck or a snowmobile. The transportation process is initiated by a skilled driver because snow areas are difficult to access. Furthermore, snowmobiles are powered by a motor engine and have a relatively high horsepower to cope up with the rugged terrain of frosty regions.

In some parts of the world, the act of catching fish on iced water bodies can be considered as a recreational activity. Some resorts offer fish shanties for hire. Those who are interested in this recreational activity can rent the shanties for a day. Snow track vehicles are also provided to allow movement on frozen water. This activity has created a lot of employment and led to economic empowerment in areas where it is practiced.

The process of extracting fish over a frozen mass of water for domestic and economic use has transformed over the centuries. To be precise, people drilled holes on frozen lakes before catching fish. This was carried out in the old days. Present day methods of capturing fish within snow infested grounds are efficient. For example, fishermen utilize special anglers to get the precise location of a fish ground.

Fish can be captured any time in frosty regions courtesy of specialized shanties that provide accommodation to fishermen. These shanties usually comprise of utilizes such as toilets and cooking appliances to ensure that fishermen enjoy their stay when catching fish. They also have the capacity to accommodate at least six people. Permanent ones also have heating appliances to provide warmth because of the low temperatures in frosty areas.

There are hazards associated with shanties mounted on iced water bodies. For example, heaters found within these shanties may cause carbon monoxide poisoning. Frost-bites also develop when shanties are exposed to low temperatures and wind. Most housing designs however have air conditioning systems that mitigate chances of air poisoning.
