Autorefractor And The Fear Of Having Some Eye Exams

By Robert Patterson

You know what is more painful and unbearable than breaking up with your cheating partner? The loss of your vision. Without that, you can never see beautiful and breathtaking sights anymore. You then just keep on relying at your ears and other senses from now on. Losing that ability is like welcoming nothingness. So before you lose it, do some check-ups and afterwards buy some glasses and face an autorefractor.

Autorefractors are machines that determine the correct prescription of lenses and glasses and also the shape of your cornea. You have probably seen these machines at optical clinics. Measuring your refraction is needed in order to distinguish how much it is that your eyes required to be corrected with contact lenses.

This is part of the procedure to distinguish the proper eyeglasses prescription and it works automatically for that is a computer-controlled machine. A patient will just sit comfortably and with their chins placed on the chinrest. A moving image will be shown and he will put his on focus on it. After that, the level of vision correction will be determined.

For humans who are blind, it does not really mean that complete blackness is what they see. For those who are blind since birth, they could not identify colors and just gaze at nothing. Some may sense distorted colors and shapes. Some would even describe it as like a total darkness as if being inside a tunnel or a cave.

But then again, most humans are not taking that procedure. The Lighthouse International had conducted a survey and the result is 86% of respondents who have some vision problems are not doing their routine exams. The quantity is really high and there should be a reason why those civilians are skipping. Most likely, they tend to avoid it because of their fear.

Sometimes seeing physicians and dentists is kind of nerve-wracking for some individuals. Perhaps they fear that they would be diagnosed with some serious diseases and they are not mentally prepared for it. That would just stress them out. For vision dilemmas, patients are scared that they might have glaucoma which is an eye disease causing a person to lose his or her vision.

Most people avoided optical care because of glaucoma test. And the part that they dislike the most is the no-contact tonometry test or simply as the air puff test. You have to endure keeping your eyelids up as the doctor blows some air into your eyes. The air then bounces back to the tonometer and then provides a reading on your IOP or intraocular pressure.

Patient will really undergo several optical diagnostic exams and some of those are really uncomfortable. Some may need a probe to gently plunge and compress your cornea so they could determine the pressure. But of course doctors will give some numbing drops so you will not feel the pain. It sounds really frightening but once you tried it, you can now shrug those fears.

If you are also afraid to see some ophthalmologist and so adamant on going to them, then just maintain the health of your eyes. Prevention is better than cure like what they say. Nevertheless, having check-ups for optimal care is still important.
