Role Of A Case Manager In Injury Case Management

By Angela Davis

When someone you care about has had an accident and is injured you can appoint yourself to be their case manager. This management is a task one can undertake when an injury occurs. It involves a lot of research and more time is dedicated trying to manage the damage. In injury case management a specialist is required to help those patients with severe injuries maintain their needs.

The more information you have in relation to every injury the better. It helps you as a case manager to know the steps to give a patient for their recovery process. The patients also learn some information about their condition which acts as a catalyst to their recovery. They are able to have a positive attitude toward their healing process when they have information on their injuries.

It is important for one to write down every experience a patient has with their doctor. This is mainly common for patients suffering from brain diseases. Due to memory loss you should have a note book with the dates and the time they have seen a doctor. It helps you to keep record and see their progress. On the side of the patient this will help them gain their memory back.

Small problems could make the health of these kind of patients worsen. They feel rejected and as if they are a burden to everyone around them. Some try to take their own lives. That is why a manager is required to help them through such ordeals. They should have someone by their side taking care of them and encouraging them not to give up. This gives them a purpose for life.

These managers act as the mediator between the family members and the patient. In some cases the patients may not be in a position to communicate like for those with brain injuries. These managers inform the family members on the progress of the patient. They also tell them what the family should do in support of the patient.

The managers should find out possible activities that the patients can engage in and teach them new activities. Some of these patients are in a position to be employed and these managers should check possible jobs for these patients. They collect information on different local activities that could help the patients fasten their recovery process.

Case managers can help in recruiting and maintaining the required staff to take care of their patient even after they leave the hospital. They help in introducing remedial activities that patients would require when at home. In a situation where patient needs to talk to a therapy these managers would bring one at the comfort of their homes.

Continued care for severely injured patients can improve quality of life for the patients. A lot of these damages are irreversible but it is possible to manage them. The aim of these managers would be to help the patients make full recovery and be able to fit back to the society. Special care should be given to these patients to help them live comfortably even after the injuries.
