Picking Fine China For Your Wedding Present List

By Jessica Murray

It is a long time since couples moved straight from their parent's home into a new home after they got married. Most couples these days live together or at least have their own homes prior to marriage. This means that the wedding gift list rarely consists of traditional household goods, but instead luxury items that the couple might not yet possess. A fine china dinner service is a perfect luxury gift for newlyweds who love to entertain.

Couples who both have their own home then choose to move in together can find themselves with an excess of all the basic items, but a porcelain dinner set is something few singletons are likely to own because of the expense. Any couple who enjoys entertaining and fine living will find this an elegant and practical addition. With many top designers now working with well known manufacturers, there are styles to suits all tastes and personalities.

A set of china need not be just for special occasions. Many manufacturers produce items that are durable enough for daily use as well as glamorous enough for parties. A complete set can run to many hundreds of dollars, but it is something that can be passed down through the family. Some traditional patterns have been in production for decades so replacements for such an heirloom are still available.

If you would like to receive a wonderful dinner set there are some things to think about before selecting a product. If you want to use the service everyday then make sure it is dishwasher safe and durable enough to withstand daily usage. Gold and silver look beautiful and elegant, but they will not survive the rigors of heavy use for very long.

If you plan to leave the service to your kids then choosing a manufacturer with longevity is imperative. If breakages should occur along the way, you need to be able to easily source replacements rather than finding the company has long gone out of business. It is also worth asking whether the style you have chosen is a short run or one of their standard patterns which is likely to be in production for many years.

Once you have selected the make and pattern, there are many ways to let your guests and family know what you want. One way is just to tell them, but then you may end up with twenty dinner plates and only one soup bowl. A better way is to make a list and let your guests choose from it.

If the manufacturer or outlet selling your chosen service has a website, you might be able to setup a wish list by registering on their site. This lets people choose items that match their budget and even have them delivered. Using a wish list of this type is excellent when friends and relations are widespread and cannot all reach the same store.

Some people may not have access to purchase online or view your list. If your family is nearby and the store local, another way to create a list is to print pictures and create a physical list for people to choose from. Using a notebook where pages can be removed for each item will avoid duplicates and you should end up with a fantastic heirloom.
