Eliminating Racism In Sports Media

By Enid Hinton

The word network is used to refer to the tools that are used to store and deliver news and information to the public. We all interact with the media in one way or another. Racism is the unfair victimization of other people based on their race. Racism in sports media is a problem that is yet to be solved. It is evident in most sports events if not all.

Games and networks seem to share one thing in common, that is, they both emphasize on the concept of fairness. Responsible networks and journalist will forever struggle to tell the whole truth through fair-minded and precise reporting. While in sports, the capacity to succeed is solely determined by individual talent regardless of all the other factors.

When ethnicity affects these two, it destroys the fairness they strive for. When a sportsman or woman starts being judged by his race, his will power starts to decrease. It destroys his or her passion. It then causes them to shy away from games and in the end, their dream vanish into the blues.

The same thing is seen in the games where racial comments are published by different networks revive ethnic thoughts. They not only influence the people reading or viewing their work, but also create favorable conditions for this parasite to thrive in. It then becomes a recurring problem, where one comment is shared across the globe via the internet like social networks.

Is it possible to bring this unfair victimization to an end? Well, we can say nothing is impossible in this world. Although we would need to establish strong measures to measure up to the situation.

The media should not be a tool that propagates racism in games, but rather one that protects. They should refrain from posting racial comments to the public. They should actually discourage people from such behavior and aid in creating a better community. It will create better harmony among participants and the spectators.

It is only fair that media should protect the rights of the people. There should be no airing of racial comments, posts and written material. They are a mirror of our society. They should show us what is happening and helps us kill the evil in it. Therefore, they should be part of our solutions in the sports industry.

Strong policies and penalties should be set to curb the problem. Spectators should be warned against any kind of discrimination in relation to any participants. Otherwise, they should be punished for such crimes. Penalties should also apply to those who post, publish, or air racial comments. The networks should not be a platform for spreading evil. Penances should be applied to one who goes against these laws.

Our minds can be a dangerous weapons to our society. Our actions are a product of our minds. Thus the most effective way to eliminate the problem it to erase it from our minds. When we destroy it habitation, we destroy its existence. Let us make it a personal goal to eliminate this communal problem.
