Keeping Your Place Clean While At School

By Hedrick Lepsch

One thing you learn quickly as a student is that time management is harder than passing organic chemistry. While some individuals are good at using their time well, many of us live life crisis to crisis.

The most wonderful, and perhaps only wonderful, thing about finals week is that it is the last hurrah of a semester, and once it is successfully completed, you can take a break, breathe easy, and have fun. With that in mind, studying for finals can be a slightly more enjoyable task, or at least you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Here are some tips to help break you of your procrastination habit. Stop trying multitasking and doing your homework at the same time. Schedule a four or five hour chunk of time every day to focus on completing your homework. We are more productive when we have time constraints.

When we talk about organization it is really about sustainable organization because you can try and fail over and over until you just give up all-together.

Create of list of three doable tasks to accomplish for the day. Instead of creating a daunting to-do list, choose three things you must get done that day. Be sure to remember to cross items off you list once you complete them. Crossing items off the list motivates you to continue complete your tasks and gives you a great sense of accomplishment.

It is also important to try studying in many different ways-if you are studying for a math test, is it easier for you to try several similar questions before moving on to a new topic? Or is it more effective for you to switch it up and to consistently try new and different things?

If you are your own worst taskmaster, it helps to be accountable to others. If you need help consistently completing homework on time consider getting a tutor, or a study buddy to be with you during your study time to help you keep on task.

Also, discovering whether distraction is a help or a hindrance to your study can be really useful. Do you work better in a quiet room? Or do you study better in a room with music or talking? Answering these kinds of questions, and experimenting can help you to study to the best of your ability.

Every master of procrastination can become a master of time management. So if you are daunted by your course load this semester for your accounting or computer science degree, remember with proper time management even the most daunting of tasks manageable. Now get back to work.
