Prevent Damage By Use Of Milk Tank And Silo

By Tammie Caldwell

A container is equipment used to store contents for a short period of time, so for farmers with large herd of cattle they need to invest in these container fitted with cooling system to prevent their content from going bad. These containers exist in many type, there is single, triple and double walled containers, there is jacketed and lastly the insulated containers fitted with outdoor and indoor installation necessary to cool, store and heat liquids. To have your dairy products properly stored use milk tank and silo.

Once the content is pumped into the containers, the temperatures of the container are reduced to keep the milk in perfect condition awaiting haulers to come and pick it. These storage facilities or containers are usually of cylindrical in nature and made using stainless materials. These containers require thorough cleaning every time they handle milk. This is to make sure they do not spoil any content stored there after.

When the lacteal secretion is put into theses cooling tanks, temperatures inside the container is reduced to low levels to be able to maintain your content fresh until it is picked up by haulers. Hygiene is very important, the tanks are supposed to be cleaned each and every time they handle dairy products.

There are lacteal secretion silos which are so big and can take more than ten thousand liters suitable for large scale producers. They are designed to be strong and they are installed outside but should be adjacent or close to dairy, that is if all the controls and milk pipe outlet are situate or fitted installed in dairy.

After collection, storage containers or silos and pipes used for inlet and outlet are washed. Products from farm are collected after twenty four to forty eight hours, during collection milk is stored in tankers made of stainless steel and insulated so as to keep the content inside cold.

Cooling systems methods are primary two, and they depend on capacity of the tank, your herd size, frequency of collection, calving pattern, quality of milk required and availability of power and water. Speedy and efficiency in milking process is very vital for preserving the product quality, immediately after milking the temperatures are thirty five degrees Celsius and this heat is quickly removed by pumping it in a cooling container.

Milk has the ability to resist bacteria naturally immediately after milking, but it is only speedy cooling to bring down temperatures to around four degrees Celsius that enable it to further stop bacteria activities.

Silos also serve the same purpose of storage, they are bigger than tanks storing ten thousand liters and plus more than the tanks. Due to their size they are located outside adjacent to dairy. Storage containers are designed to have two walls, one on the inside and the other on the outside. The walls are then separate by foam known as polyurethane.

For large container these speedy cooling calls for big refrigerators compressors to expel heat from the dairy product quickly. This is only possible in large farms where there is the presence of electrical power that is three phase.
