Tips For Keeping Up On Homework

By Franklin Skribbit

Major universities are offering more and more online courses as part of their educational arsenal these days, and there are several degrees that you can earn exclusively online. So what are the benefits and advantages of taking online courses rather than traditional face-to-face classes?

It's important to remember that school should be your priority (seeing as you are paying good money to go) and that the social aspect of college comes after. But there is no reason you shouldn't be able to accomplish both. Here are a few tips to manage your homework, so you can get good grades AND have fun in college!

Pros of Online Education - Cost is a big plus in favor of online education. You can probably hold a job, since you don't have a set class schedule. Factor in the housing costs you'll save by not living in the dorms, and online education is looking pretty good already.

Convenience - Imagine you live far away from any college campus. You won't have to leave the comfort of your home to attend class, and eliminating the commute also helps on your costs.

However, if you stick to your schedule, you will almost always have enough time to both study and play. You need both as a college student. As important as study is, make sure at least one scheduled fun activity makes it into your week, no matter how busy you are.

Establish a Routine -

Cons of Online Education - Traditional colleges and universities offer seemingly endless classes on just about anything. If you are limited to online, you might not be able to take all the courses you need or prefer. No face-to-face interaction. Social interaction with teachers as well as fellow students is important training for the work place. There are many nuances lost when communication is limited to text.

Homework Party - Finally, to spice up the study time a little more, try holding a homework party with some friends. Get together and do your homework, even if you are all working on different things. Distracting yourself is one thing, but the guilt of distracting your friends when they are trying to concentrate may give you the incentive to stay on task longer than you normally would.

The way things are going, online courses are here to stay and they will continue to grow in popularity. A study by SRI International found that online students outperformed students from face-to-face classes. Does this mean that online education is bound to overtake conventional coursework eventually, as our lives become more intertwined with technology? Probably not, because there are some darned good pros for a traditional degree as well. In the meantime, you should sign up for an online course, and experience the wave of the future in education.
